Bryan Forrest | Headshots

I think its been almost a year since I last worked with Bryan Forrest on a photo project.  This time around we worked on updating his headshots with a more scruffy look.

Kobe Bryant Basketball Skills Academy

I got invited with the Bakitwhy crew to Kobe Byrant‘s press conference at the Kobe Bryant Basketball Skills Academy in Santa Barbara, CA.  Each year Kobe runs a basketball camp using the facilities of a California college, UC Santa Barbara housed the camp this year (last year Loyola Marymount University did.)  The kids stay for a week running drills, learning camaraderie, and play basketball.  All while hanging out with Kobe himself!

Elaine Ku

I photographed this photograph of Elaine while assisting my pal, Fred Cheung, back in the spring.  I’m  quite pleased with this lighting considering it was shot solely with the modeling lights of Fred’s strobes.

Kids in Cerritos

While filming some promotional videos for Fear to Faith clothing in Cerritos Robert Ryu and I encountered an energetic bunch of youngsters who helped remind us all that

Youth is not a time in life it is a state of mind, you are as old as your doubt, your fear, your despair.  The way to keep young is to keep your faith young, keep your self-confidence young, keep your young.

DancePlug x Beat Freaks

Its been a few months since I had shot some behind the scenes moments at America’s Best Dance Crew, so you can imagine how long its been since  I’ve ran into my  pals from DancePlug.com (Glyn, Adam, and Anh).  I met Glyn in the curtained greenroom at MTV, back then he showed me a few things DancePlug was doing to promote and connect the professional dance community.  Lots of filming, interviews, choreography, and even online dance classes.  I was extremely excited when Adam called me and asked if I’d be down to help shoot some behind the scenes action and promo images for their ‘Spark Your Career‘ collaboration with the Beat Freaks.

For more updates find DancePlug and the Beat Freaks here.

Behind the Scenes of UMAMI 旨味.

Everyone has been working long hours in the Beall Center at UCI for the opening of UMAMI 旨味.  Around 4am~ between setting up scaffolds and moving 2×4 boards around I decided to snap a few shots of my fellow artists hard at work.

Its been awhile since I’ve taken one of these infamous ‘mirror + camera’ shots.

4th Annual Dragon Skate Race

Over the weekend I took on an assignment for the New University that was not a feature photo, I know its been awhile.  I shot the 4th Annual Dragon Skate Race present by the UCI chapter of Beta Theta Pi (ΒΘΠ).  The event is pretty much a long race down California Drive  (right next to Anteater Recreation Center) and ends in either a flawless stop or a one-way trip into a giant hay stack.  Either way  at the end of the day Free Wheelchair Mission gets a generous donation.

On a side note I’d like to do a series on skate culture in the future.

Jeff Cusick | Baseball

For Week 7′s New University issue, I made a feature photo of hitter.  For this week’s issue I picked up an assignment to photograph Jeff Cusick, another hitter from the Eater team.

Jeff Cusick has been a dynamite clean-up hitter for Irvine this year, with a batting average hovering around .400. The first basesman recently broke the all-time doubles record at UCI. -Andrew Melkonian, New University

Considering my last assignment was of another hitter, I did not want to make the same photo of a tough guy holding a bunch of bats.  I instead wanted to capture the motion a swinging bat.  Thus I dropped the shutter speed on my camera and with a little zooming effects.

John Chin | Golfer

Its Week 8 at UCI and I’m coming down to my final assignments as a staff photographer at the New University.  Funny thing is during my four years as part of the photo team, I never photographed a golfer at the university.  Well I guess I should complete my range of features photos with John Chin, three-time Big West Player of the Year.
