Right before their performance at the District in Tustin, I  met up with Clarke to shoot a portrait of the band.  Clarke is an upbeat jazzy band with a unique sound.  I first got to hear them live at Antstock 2009. Go ‘like’ them on Facebook and Myspace. Behind the Scenes While I was waiting [...]

Sometimes I like the light more from constants than from my usual strobes.  Robert Ryu at 55mm f/2 iso 1600.

The only thing better than working with new talent is simultaneously collaboration with old friends once again.  Kenni; owner of ABSIDEE Clothing, and producer at Motives Music Group; contacted me to work on Krystle Cruz‘s cover for her debut album Underneath Me.  Krystle came up with the concept for the shoot.  She wanted the imagery to [...]

I love window light and working with down to earth spirits like Andi!

I think its been almost a year since I last worked with Bryan Forrest on a photo project.  This time around we worked on updating his headshots with a more scruffy look.

I photographed this photograph of Elaine while assisting my pal, Fred Cheung, back in the spring.  I’m  quite pleased with this lighting considering it was shot solely with the modeling lights of Fred’s strobes.

For Week 7′s New University issue, I made a feature photo of hitter.  For this week’s issue I picked up an assignment to photograph Jeff Cusick, another hitter from the Eater team. Jeff Cusick has been a dynamite clean-up hitter for Irvine this year, with a batting average hovering around .400. The first basesman recently [...]

Its Week 8 at UCI and I’m coming down to my final assignments as a staff photographer at the New University.  Funny thing is during my four years as part of the photo team, I never photographed a golfer at the university.  Well I guess I should complete my range of features photos with John [...]

Can it be?  Another feature photo for the New University at UCI?  This week I shot a quick portrait of Brian Hernandez, a heavy hitter for UCI’s baseball team who holds a batting average (.329), doubles (12) and RBIs (34).   I said this was a quick photo because the the big guys at UCI [...]

After a long day of filming the marketing team (Ambrose, James, myself) and Justin decided to stuff our faces with delicious In-n-out.  For the last few days we’ve been filming the intro video for the UCI Computerstore‘s 6th Annual Mad Film Dash.  While shoving fries and burgers in our mouths somehow we came across the [...]

I collaborated on my first movie poster for a student film with Steven Jonatan, Stanley Chen, and Alex Millers.  The fellas are current Film and Media Studies majors at UCI and are interested in making comedies.  Apparently this one is a tangled-Romeo-and-Juliet love story mixed with a plate of smiling curry and rice??? Photography: Melly Lee [...]

I ran into Rashmi, a photojournalist intern at the New University, during the middle of last week who told me that our newest staff photographer, Chris Sinclair, wanted to collaborate on a feature photo.  The topic was to create a photo that illustrated internet neutrality (also known as network neutrality.)  I wanted to convey a [...]

For this week’s feature photo in the New University, I photographed Zac Tsai.  Looking back at my previous assignments I noticed that I often included the environment in all of my portraits.  Just to stir things up I wanted to create a nice, tightly framed image of our star tennis player. Fellow UCI photographer, Diane [...]

The UCI Bookstore’s website has finally been given a facelift … with my work!   Since last March I have been the lead photographer for the university’s bookstore.  My job’s duties and tasks involve coordinating all the small details of a photo shoot (casting models, retouching, styling, grip, lighting…etc.)  Over the course of a year [...]

With a little inspiration from Jed Root represented photographer Mary Ellen Matthews (the SNL photographer) I was able to create vibrant images for the Logan, Steve, Tyler, Daniel, and Mike of Good Evening UCI.  Good Evening UCI is a campus run group that captures the stories, esence, and interests of students at UC Irvine while [...]

It rained randomly in December.  My neighbor and I decided to go out and snap some more photos for her portfolio. I’m interested in “making” street photography like portraits.

Late last year (2009, I’m still getting used saying it’s 2010) my photo wingman, Dan Davis, asked if I could shoot MCIA (Modern Completely Insane Anteaters)’s annual portraits.  Dan got transferred to New Jersey for work, check out his blog its snows at the beach on the east coast!
